Best Offshore Sportsbooks 2020

Our goal at BettingBuck.com is to become the most trusted review site for sportsbooks who serve U.S. citizens. With states now having the authority to legalize sports betting, we are only a few years away from a majority of states legalizing or introducing legislation to legalize sports betting. In the meantime, BettingBuck will focus on reviewing the most reputable US regulated and offshore sportsbooks.

Understanding US regulated sportsbooks vs. offshore sportsbooks

For those who are new to online gambling and sports betting, it is important to clarify the differences between legal US regulated sportsbooks and illegal offshore sportsbooks. The United States Supreme Court legalized sports betting in May 2018. This decision allows each state to enact legislation that permits legalized online sports betting. Legal US regulated sportsbooks are authorized and regulated by a US governing body. These companies are only able to serve customers that are physically located in the state(s) that have legalized sports betting.

Offshore sportsbooks are online sportsbooks that operate overseas. A US governing body does not regulate these companies. The offshore sportsbooks we feature on this site are typically established sportsbooks (5-20 years of experience) and regulated by another country (typically Costa Rica). Offshore sportsbooks serve customers from all over the world, with a primary focus on the US market.

OffshorevsLegal
Legal vs. Offshore

If you live in a state that offers online sports betting, such as Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or West Virginia, we recommend you bet with an online US regulated sportsbook because a US governing body regulates it.

Unlike other sportsbook review sites, BettingBuck is entirely unbiased. While other websites give out five-star ratings to the highest paying affiliate program, we pride ourselves on giving the best ratings to the sportsbooks that provide the best overall experience.

Choosing an online sportsbook is a tough decision to make as a customer. Some bettors prefer betting on obscure sports like darts. Others prefer having a wide range of bets to place. Some want to find the best odds or banking options.

No review site currently dives into each separate category with an unbiased rating. Therefore BettingBuck will set the industry standard for reviews that focus on the end user: you. This site is all about helping you find the right sportsbook for your style of betting.

As the head of content here at BettingBuck.com, I have been a casual gambler my whole life. I bet my friends and family on virtually everything until I was 18. Once I was old enough, I opened an account at an offshore sportsbook and began betting. To conduct testing, I have funded accounts at numerous sportsbooks and placed dozens of wagers ranging in dollar value.

Here’s a breakdown of the best offshore sportsbooks in 2019.

Bovada – Best for First-Time Bettors

Bovada Logo Final

Bovada is the best sportsbook for first-time bettors because it offers more sports and better banking options than any other offshore sportsbook. They provide a free withdrawal by check every 90 days and always provide free bitcoin deposits and withdrawals, with low minimums. The company also took home the #1 award for education and shares the #1 award for customer service and reputation.

MyBookie – Best for Customer Service

MyBookie logo

MyBookie has fantastic customer service that is quick, reliable, and helpful. Along with their customer service, MyBookie also tied for the #1 ranking in bets offered. MyBookie offers standard straight and live bets, a few additional game and player prop bets, bets based on fantasy point of players, and a fantastic player props menu.

5Dimes – Best Odds

5Dimes Logo

5Dimes offers the best odds, outranking all other sportsbooks. Their reduced juice (lower commissions) on moneyline, spread, and total bets ensure bettors get the cheapest odds available.

Intertops – Best Mobile Website

Intertops Logo

Plain and simple, Intertops is the easiest sportsbook to use and has the best mobile site. The layout of their website is simplistic, provides multiple ways to navigate to the bets you want,  and boasts the best live-betting menu.

BetOnline – Best for Bets Offered

BetOnline Logo

BetOnline is one of two sportsbooks to receive a 5-star rating for bets offered (MyBookie). The sportsbook offers standard straight bets, a few additional game and player prop bets, great live bets, and a fantastic player props menu. BetOnline is tied for the #1 ranking in sports offered.

BookMaker – Best for Professionals

BookMaker allows players to wager up to $50,000 online, and $100,000 over the phone.

Choosing the Best Online Sportsbook

When looking for a new online sportsbook, you need to find what best fits your style of gambling. Do you want the cheapest odds? Do you like custom building bets in a player props menu? Alternatively, is your primary concern finding a sportsbook that is easy to use?

Here is a list of the most important factors to remember when selecting an online sportsbook. All of these are standard in our review process and are carefully analyzed to give accurate and unbiased reviews.

Banking Options and Fees – Banking fees can become a significant nuisance when depositing or withdrawing money from an offshore sportsbook. Almost all sportsbooks allow you to freely deposit money, but some do charge deposit fees for credit cards. All sportsbooks impose withdrawal minimum and fees, which are rarely waived. It is imperative that you understand your budget and what you plan on withdrawing before opening an account, or you will get hit with hefty fees.

Odds – As a finance major in college, odds have always been a careful consideration of mine. I’ve always found the best discount brokers when trading stocks, and you can bet I check every other website before letting Ticketmaster take a double-digit commission on my purchase. Some sportsbooks have tighter spreads (lower commissions), others don’t.

Sports and Bets Offered – A common misconception is that all sportsbooks offer the same sports and bets. This is far from the truth, as some sportsbook shave multiple betting menus, offer more additional bets, and offer upwards of 10 more sports than others.

Mobile Betting and Ease of Use – While offshore sportsbooks do not offer mobile apps, their mobile experiences and the overall navigation of their website varies. Some sportsbooks lose certain features in a mobile view, while others transition flawlessly.

Customer Service – 24/7 support is important to some investors, while others may want to use online chat during regular hours or receive an email back within one business day. Having access to quality customer support can be the cherry on top of an exceptional client experience.

Reputation – Some offshore sportsbooks have been around for over 20 years while others have opened in the last few years. Although no offshore sportsbooks are US regulated, the ones that are regulated by a foreign entity with a standing reputation can be trusted to an extent.

Best Banking Options

Banking with offshore sportsbooks is one of the biggest drawbacks, especially if you have legal options in the US. Fees can be ridiculous, minimum amounts can be high, and always being encouraged to deposit in bitcoin gets annoying after a while.

The chart below compares bitcoin and check banking options for all offshore sportsbooks in our first annual review.

Best Banking – Casual Bettors

Bovada – Bovada is the only sportsbook that offers customers a free check withdrawal every 90 days. Bovada is also tied for the lowest check withdrawal minimum ($100). Bovada also offers bitcoin deposits and withdrawals with low minimums and no rollovers.

Best Banking – Professional Bettors

BookMaker – Professional gamblers can rejoice in the fact that BookMaker allows $50,000 deposits via bitcoin and up to $10,000 per withdrawal.

Best Odds

I keep money with both sportsbooks that offer better odds, and sportsbooks that offer the sports and bets I most enjoy. To determine which sportsbooks offer the best odds, I analyzed data from hundreds of games for spread, moneyline, and total bets. Most books have similar spreads for total bets, while moneyline and spread bets differed substantially, based on the sport.

If you want the best lines for straight bets, look no further than 5Dimes. 5Dimes offers the best odds in the industry thanks to their reduced juice. Reduced juice is what bettors get instead of a welcome bonus. Reduced juice typically offers moneyline, spread, and total bets at -10 odds. BetOnline, GT Bets, and YouWager offer good lines if you would rather have a traditional percentage match bonus, with a set rollover.

Best Sports & Bets Offered

With close competition in total sports offered, offshore sportsbooks differentiate themselves with their offerings of bets. Four of the nine sportsbooks reviewed offer the same third-party customizable props menu with three styles of props. BetOnline, MyBookie, YouWager, and 5Dimes all describe the various bets the menu offers in the following way:

  • Statistic: A bet on a single player or two players combined to achieve a specific statistical performance. E.g. LeBron James to score 30 or more points against the Warriors. Or Brady and Brees to throw for over 600 combined passing yards.
  • H2H: A head-to-head bet is where you select one player to outperform another for a selected statistic. E.g. Messi to have more shots on goal than Ronaldo.
  • Trios: Similar to a horse racing trifecta bet where you select the 3 players to finish in the exact order from highest to lowest for a selected statistic.

The bet builder is the same product across all four websites, although the name and color scheme is different. Everything else on the menu is the same, even the odds. That said, this menu is fantastic. Making custom bets on how individual players stack up against expectations is exhilarating.

Outside of the four sportsbooks that offer the Player Props menu, Bovada offers the most team and player props bets. Bovada offers well over 100 bets on most popular games, proving itself worthy of consideration when examining bets offered

Best Live Betting

Intertops-Intertops and BookMaker both have live matchup trackers in their live betting menus, a feature that shows what direction the game is progressing, so bettors can get a feel for the flow of the game without watching it on TV.

Intertops edges out BookMaker with the fantastic display they offer bettors. The left side of the screen has all live betting games currently being played, the middle updates live bets for the game you are betting on, and the right side has the matchup tracker. The matchup tracker even flashes statistics such as time of possession or total shots when the game is in a commercial break or in between periods. This experience is top notch.

Live Betting
Offers an excellent live betting menu.

BetOnline-While BetOnline has a rather primitive live betting display, the sportsbook offers an excellent selection of bets. For baseball games, bettors can wager on the outcome of each at-bat.

Live Betting
Live betting on the US Open.

For football games, wagers can be made on the outcome of each drive. These are the types of live bets that will drive the sports betting industry forward. They’re also a lot of fun to place when watching a game.

BookMaker-BookMaker provides a similar display to Intertops, except their odds are frozen far more often. The overall experience still proves to be better than most sportsbooks.

Live Betting 2
The match tracker during a soccer match.

Below are a few categories that didn’t receive separate scores in our review, but are determining factors for gamblers.

First-Time Bettors

First time bettors should look at what they think they will value most in a sportsbook. If you think you have an understanding of how everything works, then read through the reviews posted on here and pick a sportsbook that meets your criteria.

My recommendation to bettors who aren’t sure what they’re looking for is to open an account at Bovada. Bovada will let you test the waters of sports betting while providing an easy to use platform, education on what bets are and how to place them, all while giving you the widest selection of sports to bet on.

Bovada is also best for first-time bettors because of their banking structure. If you deposit and withdraw money via bitcoin, you can play with as little as $10 to truly experiment with sports betting.

A note on bonuses

At BettingBuck we do not give a rating for bonuses because they are not the core product at hand. While they can be nice to have, they are not a core function of the sportsbook. We do include bonuses that were available at the time each review was conducted. Remember, before agreeing to receive a bonus, it is important you understand the rollover requirements, as well as any other terms and conditions the sportsbook might impose.
